The Gang is All Here ~ Ottawa Family Photographer

2020 was a long and lonely year. With a global pandemic spreading across the globe, celebrations of all kinds were postponed and/or put off. The B Family and I, had planned this family photo session just before things started to close down and unfortunately, just like many other celebrations, we had to delay. But it finally feels like 2021 is giving us something to look forward to once again, and top of the list is definitely family get togethers! It is no surprise that extended family photo sessions are currently my most requested session.

When we discussed locations for their session, Dad B was sure his mom would like something with lots of bright and vivid colours. Without even thinking about it, I suggested the Ornamental Gardens at the Experimental Farm. It checked off all the boxes. But the sweetest thing was finding out they had taken their wedding photos at the exact same location, many years earlier! That is something to celebrate! And so is this e x t r a long blog post!

I thought it was pretty amazing – and fitting – when I found out that L&R had had their wedding photos taken here 48 years ago!

There is always one in every bunch!!

One More ~ Ottawa Maternity Photographer

The thrill and anticipation of adding a new baby to a family is always an exciting time for everyone close to them . But I think it is even more exciting when it is a baby coming into your own family!

With our family, finally altogether for the first time in over a year, we celebrated the soon to be newest member – a baby boy. With a bunch of cousins, aunts and uncles, some very excited grandparents and not to mention the best big sister and parents anyone could wish for, this little boy is going to be surrounded by a lot of love (and a lot of noise!). We cannot wait.

Product Show Off! ~ Jennifer Bailey Photography

Outside of Christmas Cards and Birth Announcements, Storyboards are by far my most purchased custom designed product. They are a perfect way to display a collection of images from your session, without the need of a custom mat or multiple frames.

This 16 x 20 storyboard was delivered to my client last week and can I just say how hard it was to let it go? I LOVE it. They really are a wonderful way to tell your family’s “story”.

Storyboards are available in a variety of sizes and come mounted for extra strength and stability.

Here Come’s the Snow! ~ Ottawa Family Photographer

After an extremely busy Christmas season, I am hoping to get caught up on my blogging. Over the next week or so, keep an eye out for the last few sessions that capped off 2020! This will include my much loved, completely sold out, Christmas Card Porch Sessions!

To start things off, the M Family!

Much of November, and even into December, proved to be unseasonably warm in Ottawa – to the point where we haven’t even seen much snow until now – the first week of January! So it should come as no surprise that Mom S and I had to reschedule this season due to the wet weather. Even on our new date and time, we really weren’t sure what was going to happen! And sure enough, the clouds rolled in and a few wet sprinkles quickly turned into a windy, snowy, blizzard type snow fall. But we persevered and I’m so glad we did! Winter snow scenes are a favourite of mine and if we can capture the snowing falling at the same time? Magic!

Engaged! ~ Ottawa Couples Photographer

While I don’t generally photograph weddings, this was one I couldn’t say no to! You see, there are many connections between Nathan’s family and mine. Over the years, our families have become friends. First through the hockey world and then off the ice. It even grew to the point that Nathan would occasionally babysit my kids! But beyond that, we also have a shared love for the Toronto Maple leafs, which is sometimes a hard thing to be, living in Ottawa!

When I first heard the news of Nathan and Sarah’s engagement, I was thrilled. I had seen their relationship grow, and you just had a feeling you knew where it was going. But when they asked if I would consider photographing their wedding, I was even more excited!

Unfortunately, like most things in 2020, Sarah & Nathan’s wedding has been postponed, but that doesn’t mean the excitement has been diminished. We are looking forward to celebrating their marriage next summer! But in the meantime, we were able to go out and capture their love with some engagement photos!

All Together ~ Ottawa Family Photographer

It is always special to photograph families year after year. To see the kids grow and mature right in front of your camera – from little kids to young adults – is a gift I don’t take for granted. And when you are also close friends, it tugs on your heart a little too.

It is a big year for the M family with so many personal milestones and celebrations to look forward to. It was pointed out to me, by little sister, that this school year, each of the kids will graduate from their respective schools! That is not only an amazing accomplishment, but also a reason to celebrate! I’m so happy to have documented this special moment in time for them and to be a little part of it.

I don’t think we could have planned the session out more perfectly if we tried. The sun was shining, the weather was warm and the fall colours were glorious. It was the ideal way to celebrate a milestone birthday!

A few months ago, K’s family contacted me to discuss a photo session as a gift to commemorate her upcoming birthday and I couldn’t be more excited at the prospect. To have fun, carefree photos, that aren’t part of a formal event, is something I think every young couple should do! It is a moment in time where they can just relax, be themselves and enjoy each others company.

Thank you K&N for trusting me and all my crazy ideas. I hope this is a birthday gift you will treasure always.

Mom and her Boys ~ Ottawa Family Photographer

I hold a special place in my heart for all those mom’s of boys out there.

My husband is from a family of boys and I always wondered how my mother in law managed in a house full of big, crazy, active, always hungry boys! Whatever she did, she did it right. They all turned out to be wonderful, kind, smart human beings. And Mama N here, (along with Dad) is on exactly the same path. Her boys have all the same energy most kids have, but they are also some of the sweetest brothers I have met. They are full of giggles and adventure and truly enjoy each other’s company and Mom is here for it!

Fall Fun ~ Jennifer Bailey Photography

It is always such a great pleasure to photograph and have a little visit with the P family, each fall. These kids have literally grown up in front of my camera! Each year they get a bit taller, a bit more chatty and maybe just a bit more silly and giggly too!

The sunshine and weather was fully on our side, (which has been a struggle this year) and we were able to capture some wonderful images that I know Mom and Dad will treasure.

The Fall Glow ~ Ottawa Family Photographer

I’m not sure if there is a more fleeting season than Fall in Canada. It seems to arrive slowly and then *bang* it is here in all it’s splendour. And for what seems like such a short window, Mother Nature, puts on a magnificent show of autumn colours amid the warm glow of the sun. Without a doubt, this is one of my favourite times to capture family photos.

The B Family and I met at one of my well loved photo locations and took advantage of this short season and I am so glad we did. The colours were perfect and highlighted by K’s amazing yellow dress! Take a look for yourself.
